Open archives are the tool used for the process that goes by the name of "self-archiving", known as the "Green Road" to Open Access. It allows authors to deposit the pre-print (draft) of their work, whether already released or forthcoming in traditional scientific journals, making it freely and immediately accessible and more visible (and consequently more citable).
